Welcome the newest member of the Charter Hat family! The Charter Escape has all the features you’d expect from the perfect travel hat, with a smaller, approachable brim. Stain and water resistant, this classic offers UPF 50+ protection with bluesign® certified main body fabric. Moisture beads up and rolls right off this stylish number—it even floats in water! Internal sizing system and mesh crown make it fit and breathe just right.

To measure for a hat, circle the crown of the head with string or dental floss, above the eyebrows and ears. Measure the length of string on a ruler and compare to the size ranges listed in the hat —there’s your size! Many, but not all, of our hats feature an adjustable sizing system. When you receive your hat, loosen or tighten the adjustable sizing system (if available) as necessary for your custom fit. Wearing the hat slightly above eyebrows and ears will allow clear front and peripheral vision.

A rating of UPF 50+ is the highest sun protective rating achievable and means only 1/50th or less of UV rays are able to pass through, allowing you to diminish the sun, not the fun!

SUNDAY AFTERNOONS STORY
The year is 1982 and the founders, young and full of energy, start their lives together on ranch in California. They strive to live their lives ‘off the grid’ and in harmony with the earth. 1986 saw the beginnings of the business with an all weather picnic blanket, produced out of the need for dry backsides. The ‘Adventure’ blanket. Wherever they go the blanket gets noticed, so they are inspired to make a venture of sewing and selling the Adventure Blankets.
In 1992 the Sunday Afternoons brand is born! By 1994 with blanket fabric scraps piling up, they decide to sew them into sunhats. This is an immediate success and by 1996 they had perfected the Adventure Hat with UPF50 fabrics and many protective features.
In 1999 the wholesale business is launched in the following years many more hat styles are born.
2017 we celebrate our 25th year in business with the launch of the Heritage Collection. With business growing we look forward to outfitting the adventures of outdoor lovers everywhere!
