Pumpkin Butternut is a classic and much-loved variety, prized for its smooth beige skin, rich orange flesh, and naturally sweet, nutty flavour. The fruit are pear-shaped, typically weighing 1–2 kg each, with small seed cavities, making them easy to prepare and yielding plenty of usable flesh.
This vigorous trailing vine is highly productive and stores exceptionally well once harvested, allowing you to enjoy its flavour long after the season ends. ‘Butternut’ is incredibly versatile in the kitchen — perfect for roasting, soups, mashes, risottos, curries, baking, and even desserts.
Tip: Harvest when the skin hardens and turns a uniform golden-beige colour. Cure in a sunny, dry spot for 1–2 weeks to improve sweetness and extend storage life.
